Armenia is a mountainous
landlocked country located in Eurasia in the Southern Caucasus
between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea . The country shares
borders
with Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Iran.
A democratic
nation-state and one of the oldest and civilizations
in the world with a rich cultural heritage. Armenia was the
first nation to adopt Christianity as its official religion.
Constitutionally, Armenia is a secular state,
although Christianity plays a major role in its history and
in the national identity of the Armenian people.
Acknowledged as one of the cradles of civilization - Armenia
is an intriguing destination and a beautiful country, with
a sophisticated population and a long and cultured history.
Many
monuments and masterpieces from ancient times and from the
Middle Ages are located throughout the country.
Tourism in Armenia is based around the country's
historic landmarks and natural attractions,
including the water resorts of Lake Sevan, the hot springs
of Arzni and Jermuk, the forests of Dilijan, Aghveran, Tsaghkadzor,
Bjurakan and Gugark, and the natural caves and
cliffs of the mountainous Southeast region.
The
monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin are registered world
heritage sites, and the 5165 meter high Mount Ararat,
although geographically located in Turkey, is a national
symbol of Armenia
and visible from much of the Southwest region. The
capital city Yerevan, is located close to mount Ararat,
where the Biblical Noah's Ark
first landed following the Great Flood.
As you explore Yerevan, you
can experience the history
and culture of one of the world's earliest nations.
Insights into Armenian cultural achievements can be obtained
at museums, theaters and concert halls located throughout
the country. The tradition of theater in Armenia is over
2,000
years
old, and a wide

of performances are available, ranging from concerts to puppet
theater and jazz
