Bahrain consists
of an archipelago of 33 low-lying islands located in the heart
of the Arabian Gulf.
The name of the country
translates as “Two Seas”. Saudi Arabia lies to
the west and the two countries are connected by
the King Fahd Causeway. Qatar is located to the south across
the
Persian
Gulf.
Situated
along major international trade routes between Asia and
the
West. The Kingdom of Bahrain has served as an important
port and center of business for millennia. The capital
city of Manama is a cosmopolitan center enhanced by modern
cultural amenities including museums, shopping, restaurants
and fine hotels and the country provides an
open economy
and an
educated workforce.
Bahrain has been inhabeted for for approximately 7000 years.
The ancient Dilmun Empire arose around 3200 B.C. Babylonians,
Sumerians, Greeks, Persians, Portuguese, and Turks have each
occupied Bahrain.
Arabic is the official language of Bahrain, however English,
Farsi and Urdu are spoken widely. The local currency is
the Bahraini
dinar
(BD) which is broken into 100 fils.
