Bangladesh is located
in South Asia, and is surrounded by India on all sides except
for a small border with Myanmar to the far southeast and the
Bay of Bengal to the south. Together with the Indian state
of West Bengal, Bangladesh makes up the ethno-linguistic region
of Bengal. The name Bangladesh means "Country of Bengal".
Bangladesh consists of six administrative
divisions, these are Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna
and Barisal. Each of the dividions offer unique experiences
ranging from the low lands of the Ganges Delta to the heights
of the Chittagong Hills.
Bangladesh possesses a rich and diverse culture,
and its deeply rooted heritage is reflected within
the country's architecture, dance, music, literature, art and
dress.
The primary religions of Bangladesh are Hinduism, Buddhism
and Islam and these have each greatty influenced the country's
culture and history.
