Barbados is an independent
island nation located in the western Atlantic Ocean to
the east of the Caribbean Sea. Located close to South America,
Barbados is approximately 434 kilometres northeast
of the South American nation of Venezuela.
Barbados offers sunny days,
sparkling blue waters, and white sandy beaches. The country is
the most easterly positioned island in the Caribbean, with
a population of
about
260,000 and an area of 430 square kilometres
(166 sq miles). With 97 kilometres (60 miles)
of
coastline, Barbados has much to offer visitors in terms
of beach activities and water sports.
The country has a rich culture and heritage
which can be seen in the island's cuisine, architecture, indigenous
musical art and festivals. A visit to the galleries and exhibits
of the Barbados Museum shows how the country's
history has shaped the culture of the people of Barbados. When the sun sets, the night life begins with pulsating
exciting rhythms. Bars, pubs, clubs, floorshows,
theatre and
drive-in cinemas are some of the night time
activities.
